Goal fever

There’s no just respite for Pompey’s perplexed keeper David James. Rushing towards him is the Everton goal machine. That win over Hull in the Carling took us to 11 in 6 days – and only the sort of punter who remembers bookies in his will would back against us this Saturday.
You could argue that beating Hull is no great event but super bronzed Phil Brown is a desperate man and he gambled by making nine changes. Mistake. David Moyes also made a few and they simply added to Brown’s torture. There is a menacing look about Yakububu and Jo together. In just over 20 minutes they’d both scored. Tim Cahill and, for the moment, Marouane Fellaini, could rest easy on the bench.
That’s the beauty of the moment for David Moyes. He’s got options on the one hand, growing consistency on the other. Heitinga is proving to be the jewel that Howard Kendall for one predicted he would, while Distin has been well rated in the Prem for a long time. Even in the days when he played for struggling Man City before they trapped the world’s richest man. But what an irony if he continued to look better than Lescott.
To come for us, there’s the class of Rodwell, the clout of Neill. New, scoring, Louis Saha and much, much more. It seems a long time since Arsenal and Black Saturday. But nobody knows what happens next. For example, come November when we visit Old Trafford they might even have found a ref who won’t play Ferguson’s way. Then the week after we ‘entertain’ you know who. The crystal ball may be a bit clearer by then.
The best prediction for now is that David James, the Prem’s maddest, finger- pointing, shouting, keeper – will be just a little madder after Saturday.

Jo is a beast. Well, a classy beast. He can be a huge star in the future, I think. Man City are loaded right now but I can’t see why he couldn’t get a game there last season when they weren’t as strong at striker.
